Hiro Furukawa

Scientific Advisor at CureGRIN Foundation

Dr. Furukawa is a Professor at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York. He is a biophysicist who has revealed the three-dimensional structures of NMDA receptors at atomic resolution by implementing biophysical technologies including cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and x-ray crystallography. His group also implements electrophysiology to measure activities of NMDA receptor ion channels. Together, Dr. Furukawa’s group has provided fundamental understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying NMDA receptor functions, which serves as a blueprint to study molecular dysfunctions caused by de novo mutations and abnormal neurological conditions.
