Lawrence Ong

Lawrence Ong is a Lead Engineer at Curious Thing. Lawrence has over 13 years of experience in the IT industry and has worked with some of the biggest names in Australia including Xinja, Hyper Anna, Atlassian, Accenture, and Telstra.

Ong started their career as a Senior Technology Specialist with Telstra in 2008. Lawrence then moved to Accenture in February 2008 where they worked as a Solution Architect / Subject Matter Expert. In May 2015, they joined Atlassian as a Senior Build Engineer and worked with the team responsible for the internal company wide CI/CD build platform. Lawrence left Atlassian in September 2016 to join Xinja as a Software Engineer.

At Xinja, Ong was responsible for building an independent digital neobank for Australians. Lawrence built the bank from scratch and made it operational within a year. In May 2019, they left Xinja to join Hyper Anna as a Software Engineer. At Hyper Anna, they were responsible for building an Artificial Intelligence powered data analyst.

Ong is currently a Lead Engineer at Curious Thing. Lawrence has been with the company since January 2021 and is responsible for leading the engineering team and developing new products.

Lawrence Ong holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering from UNSW. Lawrence has worked in the IT industry for over 10 years.

Lawrence Ong works with Waqif Alam - Software Engineer, Yasaman Motazedi - Lead Data Scientist, and Sienna Lau - Software Engineer Intern. Lawrence Ong reports to Han Xu, Co-Founder & CTO.
