Derek Harlan has worked in various roles in the technology field since 2004. Derek began their career as an Urban Planning Technician at the Southwest Missouri Council of Governments, where they assisted local jurisdictions with the creation of comprehensive plans, economic development proposals, transportation planning, and mapping analysis. Derek then worked as an Urban Planner and GIS Technician at the City of Nixa from 2007-2012, where they were responsible for the implementation of regulatory procedures governing development processes, managed Geographical Information Systems, and provided recommendations on technology infrastructure upgrades. In 2012, they became a Deskside Technician at Stefanini, where they provided installation and upgrading services of hardware and software as a contractor for John Deere. From 2012-2014, they worked as a Technology Support Specialist at Springfield Public Schools, providing support of desktop, laptop and peripheral devices within the district. Derek then worked as a Business Intelligence Coordinator at Jordan Valley Community Health Center from 2014-2017, managing all EMR upgrades and workflow improvements. In 2017, they worked as a Systems Engineer at both Covenant Consulting and Cerner Corporation, where they assisted technicians with complex troubleshooting, managed AD environment, and directed new implementations of Business Management Systems. From 2018-2019, they worked as a Tier 2.5 Site Technician at Cushman & Wakefield, managing day-to-day operations of AD environment, file servers, and print servers. Derek is currently employed as a Cybersecurity Engineer and Systems Engineer at Dalechek Technology, where they manage multiple client server infrastructures, administers VMware and Azure virtual environments, and manages Azure Backup Server and Azure Site Recovery infrastructure.

Derek Harlan's education history includes a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology - Network Administration from Western Governors University (2010-2013), a Graduate Certificate in Geographical Information Systems from Northwest Missouri State University (2007-2009), and a Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning, Geology, Environmental Science and Policy from Missouri State University (2000-2006). Derek also holds certifications from Microsoft in Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals (May 2022), Azure Fundamentals (December 2021), and from LogicMonitor, Inc. in LogicMonitor Certified Associate (October 2022).
