Senior Design Engineer at Dallara

Federico Bertuol is a seasoned engineering professional with extensive experience in the design and engineering of racing car components. Currently serving as a Team Leader and Senior Design Engineer at Dallara since January 2016, Federico specializes in chassis, wings, bodywork, and suspension design. Prior to this role, Federico contributed as a Junior Composite Engineer at House of Composites ApS, focusing on CFRP component manufacturing. With a strong foundation in academic research, Federico completed a Master’s thesis on the design of a carbonfibre chassis for a sport car at the Technical University of Denmark, where additional experience as a Teaching Assistant was also gained. Earlier in the career, Federico was involved with the Race Up Team in chassis design and manufacturing of CFRP components, alongside an internship at ASFO spa analyzing turbine heat shield machining processes. Educational qualifications include a Master's degree in Engineering Design and Applied Mechanics from DTU and a Bachelor's degree in Material Engineering from Università degli Studi di Padova.

In 1972 Mr. Giampaolo Dallara founded the “Dallara Automobili da Competizione” in his home town of Varano de’ Melegari a small country town near Parma, Italy, after important job experiences in Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and De Tomaso. Today the company is a leader in the design and manufacture of racing cars, providing cars as sole supplier to IndyCar, Indy Lights, GP2, GP3, Formula 3.5 V8, Super Formula and Renault Sport Trophy. Dallara also provides cars to all Formula 3 championships, and for instructional leagues such as the Formulino, for the Formula E championship, for WEC, and ELMS. The three core competencies of Dallara are: - Design and production, using composite materials in carbon fiber - Aerodynamics: wind tunnel and CFD - Vehicle dynamics: simulation and testing In the last years, the Engineering division at Dallara has significantly expanded its activities and it has attracted business from some of the most important names in the automotive industry including Alfa Romeo, Audi, Bugatti, Ferrari, Porsche, KTM, Lamborghini and Maserati. In 2012, the company opened an engineering centre (Dallara LLC) in Speedway, Indiana, that was formed to be the sole supplier of chassis and components currently used in the IndyCar and IndyLights Series. Since its opening, Dallara LLC has been able to diversify its activities, involving also aerospace and defense industries and by becoming ISO 9001:2008 certified. In 2016, Dallara began a joint venture with Cadillac to design and manufacture an LMP2 car, which became the Cadillac Dpi that races in the IMSA Series.The same building is also home to an edutainment centre, where visitors can learn, while having fun, how a racing car is designed, developed and produced. Currently Dallara has more than 600 employees, with an average age of around 35. Each year, on average 20% of turnover is reinvested in research and development, that turnover being generated from business of which 90% is done outside of Italy.
