Derek Sawyer

Derek Sawyer has extensive work experience in engineering and project management roles. Derek currently holds the position of Sr. Vice President of Engineering and Major Projects at Darigold since December 2020. Prior to this, they worked at AbbVie as the Director of Global Engineering Programs from March 2016 to December 2020.

Before joining AbbVie, Derek worked at Pfizer, where they held the position of Director of Global Engineering, Project Management from November 2013 to March 2016. In this role, they led global engineering projects for five divisions and was responsible for managing the Global Operations capital plan.

Prior to Pfizer, Derek worked at Bristol Myers Squibb in various positions. Derek served as the Associate Director - Global Engineering & Manufacturing Services at Bristol Myers Squibb - MJN from March 2011 to November 2013, where they were responsible for the largest capital investment in the company's history.

From January 2008 to March 2011, Derek worked as an Engineering Manager at Bristol Myers Squibb - Mead Johnson Nutrition. In this role, they were responsible for project, manufacturing, automation, and utility engineering services.

Derek started their career at Pfizer in February 1999 as a Senior Manager Engineering. In this role, they directed a team responsible for project management, engineering design, and commissioning for multiple manufacturing locations.

Before joining Pfizer, Derek worked as a Project Manager at Alpharma USPD from 1997 to 1999. In this role, they managed manufacturing, packaging, facility, and utility capital projects.

Earlier in their career, Derek worked as an Engineer, Mechanical at Texas Instruments from 1996 to 1997, where they were involved in designing electronics/optics packaging and providing production support.

Derek also had previous experience at Smiths Medical as an Engineering and Maintenance representative from 1994 to 1995. In this role, they played a key role in the ISO 9000 certification initiative and implemented a computerized maintenance management system.

Overall, Derek Sawyer has a strong background in engineering, project management, and leadership roles in the pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries.

Derek Sawyer obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida, where they studied from 1989 to 1994. In addition to their degree, they obtained two certifications. In June 1999, they earned the Project Management Professional certification from the PMI-OC Project Management Institute Orange County Chapter. Furthermore, in June 1998, they obtained the Professional Engineer certification from the State of Michigan.
