James Yu

DARPA Innovation Fellow

James Yu is a DARPA Innovation Fellow and a biomedical scientist focused on biotechnology and global health. They completed their PhD in Biomedical Sciences at UC San Diego, where their research involved studying human adaptation to high altitude through physiological and biomedical techniques. James has engaged in fieldwork in remote regions like the highlands of Nepal and the Andes, and has contributed to research on the skin microbiome and sleep studies in Madagascar. They also served in the US Army Reserves since 2016, where they held the roles of MEDEVAC Pilot and Platoon Leader, overseeing operations and piloting UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. Currently, James serves as an Innovation Officer in the Medical & Biotechnology Detachment within the 75th Innovation Command.
