Emnet Tafesse has held a variety of roles in the public policy and research sectors. In 2021, they began working as a Research Analyst at the Data & Society Research Institute. From 2019 to 2021, they were a Project Associate at Crime Lab and Education Lab New York, where they worked on a team partnering with the New Jersey Administration of Courts to promote a "light touch" criminal justice system and explored diversion programming for domestic violence cases. In 2018, they were a Policy Analyst at the Administration for Children & Families for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and a Research Assistant at the University of Chicago, where they researched the effects of bias and information on the interpretation of the validity of police shootings. From 2016 to 2018, they were a Policy Intern at the National Juvenile Justice Network, where they performed policy research/analysis, wrote memos on the significance of newly published research, wrote policy briefs on new legislation, conducted qualitative research on international policy, and oversaw media platforms and organizational outreach.
Emnet Tafesse obtained an Associate's degree in Sociology from Bellevue College in 2015, followed by a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Sociology from Howard University in 2017. In 2019, they completed a Masters in Public Policy from the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago.
