Joan Mukogosi

Joan Mukogosi has a diverse work experience. Joan began in 2018 as an intern for the City of Pittsburgh Mayor's Office, where they supported the Welcoming Pittsburgh Initiative and Sister Cities Program. Joan also conducted policy and best practice research on mass incarceration and community policing methods. In the same year, they were a Peer Mentor (Residence Assistant) for New York University, where they were the leader of Facility Equity Club and organized monthly events and outings. In 2019, they were an Intern for Jewish Family and Community Services of Pittsburgh, where they organized and developed an inventory system for material donations. Joan also was an Intern for SOS Racisme - Touche pas a mon pote, where they conducted research on discrimination practices in France. Additionally, they were a Development Intern for ACE Programs for the Homeless and a Communications Intern for Institute for Children, Poverty, and Homelessness. In 2020, they were a Research Assistant for AI for the People and a Program Manager for COVID Black. Currently, they are a Research Analyst and Research Assistant for the Data & Society Research Institute.

Joan Mukogosi completed their high school diploma at Winchester Thurston School from 2012 to 2016. Joan then attended New York University from 2016 to 2020, where they earned a Global Liberal Studies degree with a focus on Politics, Rights, and Development. Joan is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Sociology at Columbia University, which they began in 2021.
