Andy is Vice President, Strategic Advisor at Google. He founded the Google Creative Lab, a creative and prototyping lab, in 2007, which he led for 14 years. Google’s Creative Lab has been involved with almost all of Google’s major product lines and innovation efforts. Prior to joining Google in 2008, Andy was the Co-President of Ogilvy & Mather, New York, one of the most well-known advertising companies in the world. Before Ogilvy, Andy was recruited by Steve Jobs to join Chiat/Day to help re-launch the Apple brand, which included launching the iMac and introducing the Apple Online Store. Previous to working with Apple, he ran Nike's US business at Wieden & Kennedy in Portland, Oregon. Andy graduated from Duke University, where he was a member of the basketball team, as a walk-on. Andy and his wife, Elliot Smyth Berndt, are the parents of two daughters, including Alice ‘22. Elliot is the daughter of the late Ross Smyth ‘58, who served on Davidson’s Board of Trustees. Andy and Elliot chaired the Parents Council in 2021-2022 and established the Ross J. Smyth Scholarship in support of The Davidson Trust.
