Dan capped a 41-year investment career as a Managing Partner of Atlanta Capital Management Co., an institutional money management firm. While there, he managed the Calvert Social Investment equity mutual fund, the first socially responsible investment fund in the US. Prior to retiring in 2011, Dan led an effort to sell Atlanta Capital to Eaton Vance Co of Boston. While a student at Davidson, Dan majored in economics and was named a Distinguished Military Graduate with membership in Scabbard and Blade. He was an officer of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, a staff member of the Wildcat Handbook and Quips and Crank's yearbook. After graduation, Dan served in the U.S. Army and later received an MBA with distinction from the Wharton School. Over the years, Dan has continued his strong association with Davidson including the following: Life Member of the Board of Visitors, advisory member of the Trustee Investment Committee, Co-chair of the 50th and 55th reunion committee, annual fund class agent, member of Georgia Regional Committee for Campaign for Davidson, and co-founder of the H Boyce Connell Merit Scholarship. He was awarded the Alumni Distinguished Service Award in 2016. In 2020, Dan established the Boone Pre-tenured Professorship to focus on capitalism and income inequality. Dan is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has served on the boards of a number of non-profit agencies including The Merrie Boone Comprehensive Care Clinic for Parkinson’s at Emory University, The High Museum (lifetime), Habitat for Humanity in Atlanta, Investment Advisory Association (chair), Atlanta Society of Financial Analysts (President), Low Country Institute, Executive Council to Emory Brain Center, and Coastal Conservation League of South Carolina.
