Sofia Lau-Alves has worked in a variety of roles since 2010. Sofia began their career as a Sustainability & Energy Building Specialist (Co-op) at Provident Energy Management Inc. in 2010, followed by a Light Energy Assessor (Co-op) role at Trico Energy Services Inc. in 2011. In 2012, they worked as a Project Assistant (Co-op) at the Regional Municipality of York. From 2014-2018, they held various roles, including Business Development & Project Coordinator at Energy Network Services Inc., Design Consultant at Closets By Design, and Sales & Marketing Coordinator at MediFast Inc Canada. In 2018, they began working as a Dog Walker/Sitter at Rover.com. Since 2021, they have been a Client Solution Lead and Client Solution Developer at Daylight, as well as a Freelance Web Developer.

Sofia Lau-Alves obtained their High School Diploma from Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School in 2004-2007. Sofia then attended the University of Waterloo from 2008-2013, where they earned a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Environment & Resource Studies Honors Co-operative Program. In 2017, they completed Building Systems at Seneca College (BES700). In 2018, they completed Fundamentals of Project Management at Ryerson University (CTEC 210). In 2020, they completed Web Development Immersive Bootcamp, Accelerated JavaScript, and Accelerated Web Development at Juno College of Technology. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications, including Web Development Immersive Bootcamp from Juno College of Technology in September 2020, LEED AP BD+C from U.S. Green Building Council in December 2016, IESNA Fundamentals of Lighting from Illuminating Engineering Society in April 2014, Spanish Language Certificate Level II from Dr. Monica Leoni, Spanish & Latin American Studies Department Chair, University of Waterloo in May 2013, and Customer Service from Job Skills in November 2017.
