We founded DECHEM Studio in 2012 in Prague to explore the dialogue between contemporary design and the centuries-old Czech glassmaking tradition, a living craft recognized by UNESCO as part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage.
The name “DECHEM”, meaning “by breath” in Czech, captures the essence of our work, where each piece is shaped through human touch, precision, and time. Working in the heart of Bohemia, we collaborate exclusively with master Czech glassblowers, mold makers, and artisans whose expertise has been passed down for generations.
Our collections merge heritage craftsmanship with modern technology and design sensibility. We create lighting, vases, and bespoke furniture that combine traditional hand-blown glass techniques- cutting, engraving, grinding, and kiln-fired painting, with minimalist contemporary form.
Sustainability is central to our practice. From sourcing raw materials in historic Bohemian quarries to partnering with local producers for metal and electrical components, every piece we make is created with environmental and cultural responsibility in mind. Our lighting uses energy-efficient LED technology with smart control systems that mimic natural circadian rhythms, enhancing both performance and human well-being.
Our work has been featured in Vogue Europe, Elle Decor, and Elle China, and recognized with awards including the Elle Decor International Design 2022, Czech Grand Design 2014, Big SEE Award 2025 and Archiproducts Design Award 2025.
We are represented by leading galleries and retailers, including Galerie Philia (New York), Spazio Rossana Orlandi (Milan), Fumi Gallery (London), and The Conran Shop (London). Our work has been exhibited internationally at Salone del Mobile, London Design Week, Venice Glass Week, Light + Building, and Design Inspire Hong Kong.
Through each object, we continue to redefine Czech glassmaking for the modern era- bridging design innovation with craftsmanship, sustainability, and cultural continuity.
