Tobias Wochinger

Tobias Wochinger has extensive experience in software engineering. Tobias began their career in 2013 with an internship at BMW Group as a Compliance Intern. In 2014, they worked as a Software Engineer at in-motion GmbH, where they implemented REST APIs for Android applications with Java, JAX-RS and Gradle, and also handled server administration. In 2016, they worked as a Research Assistant at HTW Berlin, where they explored improved file caching using deep learning for the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY), and set up a cluster for machine learning with HDFS, Apache Spark and Distributed TensorFlow. In 2017, they worked as a Software Engineer at SPRYLAB Technologies GmbH, where they co-developed the largest English-speaking iOS news app in Asia using Swift and set up an infrastructure for load tests using Docker and Rancher. From 2018 to 2022, they worked at Rasa, starting as a Staff Engineer and Tech Lead. In this role, they turned a spike for a failing feature into a product opportunity after proactively identifying a solution and getting buy-in from product leadership, and also led a newly initiated team through technical discovery and design of a new data architecture for Rasa Enterprise which enabled multi-user collaboration and robust synchronization. Tobias then moved on to Senior Software Engineer, where they evangelized, designed and implemented a new computational backend for training and running machine learning models with Rasa Open Source, and led coordination and execution of the Rasa Open Source 3 major release across teams. Finally, they worked as a Solutions Architect, where they moved 3 customers into production by conducting workshops and providing third-level-support, designed and implemented the command-line interface of Rasa Open Source, and migrated Rasa Enterprise from a MongoDB backend to PostgreSQL. Currently, they are a Senior Software Engineer at deepset.

Tobias Wochinger obtained a Bachelor degree in Wirtschaftsinformatik from the Hochschule M\u00fcnchen University of Applied Sciences between 2011 and 2015. Tobias then went on to obtain a Master degree in Angewandte Informatik from the Hochschule f\u00fcr Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin between 2015 and 2018. In November 2018, Tobias obtained a Machine Learning certification from Coursera.
