Michel Couillard has extensive work experience in the defense and research sectors. Michel has held various positions at Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) and the Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation. At DRDC, they served as the Centre Director of the Atlantic Research Centre and held roles such as Head of Underwater Warfare, Project Director for the All Domain Situational Awareness S&T Program, Acting Head of Land and Operational Command, and Team Leader for Competitive Projects Interim Team. Michel also worked as a Defence Scientist at the Canadian Army Land Warfare Centre and in the Strategic Planning Operations Research Team. Prior to their roles at DRDC, they worked as a Scientist at the Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation and as an Operations Analyst at Task Force Kandahar. Michel also has experience in the financial sector, having worked at Desjardins Global Asset Management and Standard Life Investments. Michel began their career as a Research Assistant at Western University and Procter & Gamble.
Michel Couillard completed their education in a chronological order. Michel obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Finance from Université de Montréal - HEC Montréal in 2001. Following that, they pursued a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics from The University of Western Ontario, completing it in the years 2001 to 2003. Finally, they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Applied Mathematics from The University of Western Ontario between 2004 and 2008.
In addition to their academic achievements, Michel Couillard also obtained a certification as a Project Management Professional from the Project Management Institute in December 2014.
