Melvin Dong has extensive experience in maritime acquisition and research and development projects, particularly within the underwater domain. Since June 2014, Melvin has held various roles at DSTA, including Programme Director for Submarines, Head of Capability Development for Underwater Systems, and Senior Programme Manager, focusing on R&D management and maritime technologies. Prior to this, Melvin served as an R&D Programme Manager and Capability Development Consultant, gaining significant exposure to the naval defense domain and developing competencies in capability planning and project management. Earlier roles included a technical position at DSO National Laboratories specializing in underwater acoustics and a teaching role at Carnegie Mellon University, where Melvin also conducted research in sensor systems design. Melvin holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
