Wenzel Huettner has a diverse range of work experience in the field of cybersecurity. Wenzel began their career as a Systems Administrator at Unisys in 2001 and worked there until 2003. In 2004, they joined Telecom New Zealand as a Solutions Design Consultant and worked there until 2006. Wenzel then moved on to Gen-i, where they worked as a Design Principal for Management Systems from 2006 to 2009. Wenzel then returned to Telecom New Zealand as a Design Manager for Managed Services & Security, where they served until 2014. From 2014 to 2016, they worked at Datacom as the General Manager for Network & Security Services. Following that, they joined Transpower New Zealand in 2016 as the Network & Security Services Manager until 2018. Currently, Wenzel is the Chief Executive Officer at DEFEND, a New Zealand cybersecurity company focused on delivering cyber resilience to customers worldwide. Wenzel also had a previous role as the Chief Cybersecurity Architect at DEFEND from 2017 to 2022. Throughout their career, Wenzel has gained extensive experience in information security strategy, governance, architecture, design, and operational delivery of security services.
Wenzel Huettner's education history starts in 1997 when they attended Auckland University of Technology. Wenzel completed their Bachelor of Business degree in Management & Information Systems in 2000.
In addition to their degree, Wenzel has obtained several certifications throughout their career. In 2018, they obtained the Cyber Security Foundation+Practitioner Certification from ALC Training and the Certified Information Security Manager® (CISM) certification from ISACA. Wenzel also became an APMG Accredited Trainer for CISM in the same year.
Prior to that, in 2013, they received the TOGAF 9 Certified certification from The Open Group. In 2012, Wenzel obtained the Business Development Manager (Frameworx - eTOM, SID, TAM) certification from TM Forum. In 2010, they completed the ITIL Foundation v3 certification from Pink Elephant.
During their earlier years, Wenzel acquired the EMC Smarts (Ionix) Administrator certification from EMC in 2005.
More recently, in 2019, they obtained the Microsoft 365 Certified: Security Administrator Associate certification from Microsoft.
