Vera Smith is a seasoned environmental policy professional with extensive experience in conservation and resource management. Currently serving as a Senior Federal Lands Policy Analyst at Defenders of Wildlife since August 2019, Vera leads advocacy efforts for the protection of imperiled species on public lands and previously acted as the Federal Lands Team Lead. Prior to this role, Vera held the position of Principal at Better Planet Solutions, where consultation for non-profits focused on strategy and sustainability was key. Vera's long tenure at The Wilderness Society included roles as National Forest Planning and Policy Director and Recreation Program Director. Additional experience includes serving as Conservation Director for Colorado Mountain Club and various roles with the National Park Service. Educational credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Geology and Environmental Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Science in Land Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
