Matthew LaPointe currently serves in the Autonomy Portfolio at the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) since May 2024. Prior to this role, Matthew held significant positions within the US Navy, including Executive Director of the Navy Robotic Warfare Specialist Working Groups and Senior Advisor for emerging technology at the Department of Defense, focusing on robotics and artificial intelligence. Matthew's extensive experience in the Navy Reserves includes senior roles supporting unmanned systems and serving as the Commanding Officer for a UAS unit. Previous industry experience encompasses leadership roles at Amazon Robotics and Scale AI, as well as involvement with various organizations in the unmanned systems field. Matthew is pursuing a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Cambridge and holds multiple advanced degrees from prestigious institutions, including Johns Hopkins and the U.S. Naval War College, alongside a Bachelor of Science in History from the United States Naval Academy.
