Yuriy Zaliznyak

Software Development Engineer at Definely

Yuriy Zaliznyak has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Yuriy started their career in 1997 as a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Nuclear Research, where they focused on plasma theory and computational plasma physics. Yuriy worked on various projects related to plasma waves, turbulence, and nonlinear optics.

In 2001, Yuriy worked as a Visiting Researcher at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, where they conducted numerical simulations of fast ionospheric Alfven resonator excitation.

From 2002 to 2004, Yuriy worked as a Postdoc at FOM-Institute for Plasma Physics, where they conducted simulations of instabilities and nonlinear structures in the solar wind.

Yuriy then worked as a Postdoc at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics from 2004 to 2006, focusing on the study of turbulence in magnetized plasmas and utilizing supercomputers for modeling and visualization.

In 2009, Yuriy served as a Visiting Researcher at CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique, where they worked on numerical simulations of whistler waves propagation and particles acceleration.

From 2012 to 2014, Yuriy took on a different role as the COO of TERRA FOOD's "Kornin Cheese" factory, managing cheese and butter production.

Starting in 2014, Yuriy became self-employed and pursued their interests in data science, computational science, and physics.

In 2017, Yuriy joined Luxoft as a Senior Software Engineer, contributing to the Halliburton-Landmark project by developing algorithms for oil-gas economics modeling and prediction. Yuriy also worked as a Software Developer for the same project, focusing on C# .NET, Fortran, C, and Matlab development.

In 2021, Yuriy joined Daxx Software Development Teams in Ukraine as a Software Development Engineer, specializing in maritime training simulator development.

Most recently, Yuriy joined Definely in 2022 as a Software Development Engineer, contributing to the development of legal tech products using C# and .NET technologies.

Overall, Yuriy's work experience showcases their expertise in software development, computational physics, and project management in both academic and industry settings.

Yuriy Zaliznyak pursued their education starting from high school at High School 145 in Kiev, Ukraine, specializing in mathematics and physics from 1989 to 1992. Yuriy then enrolled at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, where they earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Plasma Physics from 1992 to 1997. Following this, they furthered their studies at the same university and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Plasma and High-Temperature Physics from 1997 to 2001.

In addition to their formal education, Yuriy Zaliznyak has also earned several certifications. These include certifications in Server-side Development with NodeJS, Multiplatform Mobile App Development with Web Technologies, Hadoop Platform and Application Framework, and Introduction to Big Data. These certifications were obtained through Coursera Course Certificates in the years 2015 and 2016.
