Alexander Rayner

Alexander Rayner is an experienced professional in trade policy and negotiation, currently serving as Head of Tariffs and Rules of Origin at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs since November 2018. In this role, Alexander leads a team advising on the UK's tariff policy for agri-food goods and participates as a lead negotiator in various Free Trade Agreement negotiations. Previously, Alexander held senior roles at Defra, including Head of Europe, Middle East and Strategy Team, and Team Leader in the Global Trade Negotiations Unit, focusing on trade negotiations and strategies with various global partners. Earlier positions include policy advisement at the Department for Transport and serving as Assistant Private Secretary at the Department for Education. Alexander's educational background includes an M.Phil in Politics and a BA in Geography from the University of Oxford.
