Derek Lombardi, AICP, serves as a Senior Planner in the Office of Smart Growth at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission since June 2017, focusing on transportation and land use planning across a nine-county region. Prior experience includes a Graduate Assistant role at the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, where Derek contributed to the Sustainable Communities program, and additional positions at the University of Maryland and Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission that involved research and planning support. Derek's earlier career included educational roles with Teach For America and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, emphasizing teaching and leadership development in underserved communities. Derek holds a Master’s Degree in City/Urban, Community, and Regional Planning from the University of Maryland, a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and International Relations from Bucknell University, and a Graduate Certificate in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
