Marc Porat

Advisory Board Member at Delos

Marc Porat is a Silicon Valley visionary and serial entrepreneur known for his pioneering work creating the first smart phone. Marc co-founded six companies, including three cleantech companies in the built environment.

Marc joined Apple Computer as a Director in the Advanced Technology Group (1988), where he led the development of Pocket Crystal, a detailed plan for producing a smart phone -- how it would look, feel, and be intimately integrated into the lives of people worldwide. Marc spun out the project as General Magic in 1991, serving as its CEO & Chairman. With an extraordinary group of Apple and Silicon Valley engineers, General Magic went public and shipped a “personal communicator” in 1995. Several Magician engineers went on to create iPhone and Android. The story is featured in a film “General Magic” and premiered in 2018 at the Tribeca Festival.

Following, Marc turned his attention to climate change. He founded three companies: CalStar developed an innovative cement that emitted almost zero CO2; Zeta Communities designed and manufactured modular, net-zero energy, healthy homes; and Serious Energy developed and produced ultra-high energy efficiency windows. Marc also served on the Board of Directors at Carbon War Room, the NGO founded by Richard Branson to mitigate climate change at gigaton scale.

At Delos, Marc leads an internal stealth project, PlanetX, a consumer facing ESG platform. The project brings together Marc’s lifelong passion to do good things that matter.
