Marc Hijma is a seasoned expert in earth science with extensive experience in sedimentary and engineering geology. Currently serving as a Guest Researcher at Soil Geography and Landscape, Wageningen University & Research, and as an Expert Earth Scientist at Deltares since November 2012, Marc specializes in applying geological and geotechnical knowledge to enhance project outcomes. Marc has also held various academic roles, including lecturing and contributing to the Young Science Council at Deltares, focusing on scientific excellence and mentorship for emerging researchers. With a strong academic background, including a PhD in Earth Sciences from Utrecht University, Marc's prior experiences include post-doctoral fellowships at Tulane University and Leiden University, and a PhD-candidacy that investigated the Rhine-Meuse system at the end of the last ice age. Additionally, Marc has been actively involved in professional organizations, serving as a board member of the Royal Geological and Mining Society of The Netherlands (KNGMG) from 2017 to 2023.
