James Struthers has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of engineering geology. James currently holds the position of Principal - Engineering Geology at Delve Underground, where they provide senior-level expertise in geotechnical design and project management. James'sexpertise lies in areas such as rock slope design, unstable slope mitigation, landslide mitigation, and the application of engineering geology to large heavy civil and transportation projects.

Prior to their role at Delve Underground, James worked at the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), where they held multiple roles. James served as the Chief Engineering Geologist, responsible for the strategic and tactical management of the Engineering Geology Section. James also worked as the Assistant Chief Foundation Engineer, Special Projects, leading geotechnical representation for projects of large scope and complexity, such as the Alaskan Way Viaduct and SR520 Replacement Programs. Additionally, they held the position of Project Engineering Geologist with the Geotechnical Division at WSDOT, managing and designing highway projects on a statewide basis.

Before joining WSDOT, James worked as a Senior Engineering Geologist at Squier Associates, where they performed project-level design and management for engineering geology projects in Washington and Oregon. James also gained experience as an Engineering Geologist at David Newton Associates, where their responsibilities included conducting and managing geotechnical design projects in Oregon and Washington. James'swork focused on areas such as geotechnical evaluation for commercial development, landslide mitigation, seismic evaluation, and dam and mining site development.

At the beginning of their career, James worked as an Engineering Geologist at Northwest Geotech, Inc / Northwest Testing, Inc., gaining foundational experience in the field.
