Mr. James Smolka is an electrical engineer with over 20 years of experience, particularly in the fields of electrical power engineering, power distribution equipment, and instrumentation and controls (I&C) engineering. His specific areas of expertise include design and analysis of electrical power systems for power generation plants. Mr. Smolka applies his extensive knowledge of U.S. standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA, OSHA Regulations, ANSI, NEMA, etc.) and international standards (e.g., IEC Standards) to the work he does. He has successfully completed projects involving electrical systems failures on equipment such as generators, transformers, switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers (MCC), panel boards, and UPS. Additionally, Mr. Smolka has extensive knowledge of equipment controls failures on programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robotics, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, human machine interfaces (HMIs, and functional safety systems). Mr. Smolka’s knowledge is often sought out for projects involving power generator equipment, including generators, utility transformers, solar systems, motors, grounding systems, and backup systems (e.g., emergency generators, battery systems, UPS).

Mr. Smolka is unique in that he brings a strong technical background to the table. Prior to joining ESi, Mr. Smolka cultivated his practical knowledge working as a Navy Electronics Technician, and as an electrician and electronics technician for various manufacturing firms.
