Stephen Lane

Stephen Lane has a diverse work experience spanning over several roles and industries. Stephen started their career as a Senior Dangerous Goods Officer in 2005 and remained in this position until 2017. From 2018 to 2019, they worked as a Team Leader of the Dangerous Goods Support Team, where they led and empowered a team of safety professionals. In 2019, they became a Senior Inspector with the Major Hazards Team within the Dangerous Goods and Critical Risks Directorate. Most recently, they have been serving as a Principal Inspector with the MHF group at the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety in Western Australia since August 2021. Prior to their career in safety and regulation, Stephen worked as a Science Head of Faculty at Mandurah Catholic College from 1993 to 1999 and held a position at Analabs from 1984 to 1990.

Stephen Lane completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Secondary Education with a focus on Physical Sciences & Mathematics Education from Curtin University in 1990. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) from The University of Western Australia in 1983, with a major in Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, and Soil Science. In 2014 to 2016, they pursued a Diploma of Quality Auditing from the Australian Institute of Management, specializing in Lead Auditing and Developing Quality Teams. Stephen also took various training courses and certifications later in their career, such as the ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code Course in 2023, HAZOP Leader course at MYRNA HEPBURN TRAINING in 2020, Functional Safety Engineer Certification at TÜV Rheinland - I&E Systems Perth in 2020, and other relevant courses in areas like team facilitation, human and organizational factors, hazard analysis, and managing people and performance. Stephen's educational journey began with their completion of high school at Mazenod College OMI in 1980.
