Information Security Team Lead, Cyber Security Architect (federal Civilian) at Department of Energy

Rebel Powell has a diverse work experience in the field of information security and technology. Rebel started their career as a Network Technician at the Vernon Parish School Board, where they provided user support and conducted network administration. After that, they served in the United States Air Force, where they held various roles, including Adversary Network Warfare Operator and Adversary Defensive Team Chief. In these roles, they led and participated in multiple exercise scenarios to validate cyber tactics and techniques. Rebel also served as an Assistant Flight Commander and gained experience in managing military and civilian personnel. Subsequently, Rebel joined the Air Force Special Operations Command as a J6 Cyber Operations Floor Officer, providing cyberspace operations support during Operation Enduring Freedom. Rebel then worked at the U.S. Department of Energy as an Information Security Team Lead and Cyber Security Architect, where they were responsible for network security and information assurance of on-premise and cloud computing software development/web networks. Rebel designed and operated multiple systems and platforms to conduct active defense and respond to security threats. Lastly, Rebel worked at the National Security Agency as a Mission Commander and Red Team Operator, where they conducted operations to assess network security.

Rebel Powell obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and an Associates of Science in Business Administration from Northwestern State University, graduating in 2009. In 2021, Rebel completed a Master of Science degree in Information Security Engineering from SANS Technology Institute. Additionally, Rebel holds a Graduate Certificate in Motivational Speaking from Lakewood University, received in 2020. Rebel has acquired multiple certifications, including Project Management Professional (PMP)®, Forrester Adopting Zero Trust Certification, GIAC Security Expert (GSE), Deep Learning from IBM, Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and several others.
