Deanne Bird has a diverse work experience in various government departments and research institutions. Deanne currently works as the Principal Capability Officer for Emergency Management and Regional Public Health at the Victorian Department of Health. Previously, they served as the Strategic Stakeholder Engagement Lead at the Department of Premier and Cabinet, where they played a crucial role in designing and implementing a Human Capital Management platform. Prior to that, they worked as the Manager of Engagement and Partnerships for the COVID-19 Response Vaccination Program at the Victorian Department of Health. Deanne also has experience in program evaluation coordination and research, having worked at the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and the University of Iceland.
Deanne Bird completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Geology at James Cook University from 2000-2002. Deanne then pursued a BEnvSc in Physical Geography at Macquarie University from 2002-2003. Deanne obtained two PhD degrees, one in Geography from Háskóli Íslands and another in Geography from Macquarie University, both from 2006-2010. Deanne also completed two postgraduate training courses: one in the Study and Management of Geological Risks at the University of Geneva in 2007 and another in Earthquake and Tsunami Vulnerability Reduction at the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre in 2006.
