Gregory Smith serves as Chief Judge for the U.S. Department of the Interior's Court of Indian Appeals since May 2019, while maintaining a law practice at The Law Office of Gregory D Smith since January 1993. Additionally, Smith holds the position of Native American Tribal Appellate Court Justice for the Pawnee Nation Supreme Court since March 2015 and serves as Municipal Judge for the Town of Pleasant View, Tennessee, a role held since November 1997, recognized as "Judge of the Year" by the Tennessee Municipal Judges Conference in 2017 and having presided as President of the conference from 2018 to 2020. An adjunct law professor at Lincoln Memorial University School of Law since May 2022, Smith holds a Doctor of Law (JD) from Samford University and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Government from Middle Tennessee State University. Furthering legal education, Smith obtained three judicial certifications from The National Judicial College and a Graduate Certificate in Native American Studies from Montana State University-Bozeman.
