Kathryn Stieber

VP, General Counsel & Secretary at DePaul University

Kathryn Stieber became secretary of the university and general counsel on July 1, 2020. She works closely with DePaul’s Board of Trustees, its president and other officers.

As general counsel, Stieber leads a team of five attorneys with expertise and experience in a variety of subjects relevant to higher education. Together, they provide counsel and crisis management assistance in a range of legal issues affecting higher education. As secretary, she is an executive officer of the university, leading the team that manages and facilitates the business of DePaul’s Board of Trustees.

Stieber served as deputy general counsel since 2007 and assistant university secretary since 2019. She served as interim vice president for Human Resources in 2012 and first joined DePaul’s Office of General Counsel in 2005.

Prior to DePaul, Stieber was a labor and employment associate at Jones Day. She also served as a judicial clerk for United States Magistrate Judge Jane J. Boyle in Dallas, Texas. Stieber is a graduate of the Southern Methodist University School of Law. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University. She is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys and the Association of Corporate Counsel. She is a member of the board of directors of Theater Wit and currently serves as president.
