Kimberly Brown, Ph.D., M.Ed., Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, serves as the chief academic officer and student affairs officer of the University and oversees all matters relating to academic affairs, enrollment management, and student services and programs.
Dr. Brown joined Des Moines University in 2015 to serve in the newly created role of vice president for enrollment management and student affairs. In this role, she provided a unified vision and direction for the University’s strategic enrollment planning and the delivery of student services. She launched the University’s first Strategic Enrollment Plan (SEP) in 2017 and subsequently has launched three-year SEPs to connect with DMU’s Vision 2021 and Vision 2024.
Prior to joining DMU, Dr. Brown spent over 14 years at Midwestern University, including serving as university director of finance for the institution’s Downers Grove, IL, and Glendale, AZ, campuses. She held responsibility for the University’s revenue cycle, student financial services teams, registrars, patient accounts teams, and physician credentialing for the university’s multispecialty clinics, dental and eye institutes, and the companion animal clinic. In 2006, Dr. Brown was awarded the Littlejohn Award from Midwestern University. The award honors the values of service, caring and commitment professed by the University’s founders, the Littlejohn brothers, and her exemplification of this same spirit today. Prior to joining Midwestern, she served in finance roles in undergraduate institutions and as a debt management consultant for USA Funds.
Dr. Brown has been an accreditation site team evaluator for the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the American Osteopathic Association since 2007. She has also served as a member on COCA’s Standards Review Task Force and a member of the Committee for College Accreditation Training. She became chair of the Council on Student Affairs from 2019 to 2020 for the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) after serving as chair-elect from 2018 to 2019. She was chair of the AACOM Council of Student Financial Aid Administrators from 2010 to 2014. In 2017, Dr. Brown was nominated by AACOM and appointed by the United States Department of Education to serve as an alternate negotiator representing financial aid administrators on the department’s negotiated rulemaking committee on borrower defenses and financial responsibility.
Dr. Brown holds a Ph.D. in leadership for higher education from Capella University. She also holds a graduate certificate in women in leadership from Cornell University, post-master’s certificates in enrollment management from both Capella University and Noel-Levitz, an M.Ed. in human resources development from Xavier University and a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Ball State University.
