Sue Huppert joined Des Moines University in 2008. In 2016, she became chief of external and governmental affairs with responsibility for community relations and state and federal policy direction for DMU. Mrs. Huppert provides strategic direction on engagement opportunities and partnerships for DMU and on setting and promoting the legislative priorities for the University.
Being involved in the community has been a commitment for Mrs. Huppert throughout her career. She has been involved in a number of leadership roles including as treasurer of the Gray’s Lake and Meredith Trail Advisor Committee, Chairperson of the Gray’s Lake Planning and Design Committee, and past chair and member of the Polk County Housing Trust Board, appointed by the Polk County Board of Supervisors. She was appointed by the mayor of the City of Des Moines to serve on the Des Moines Water Works Board of Trustees, where she is involved in efforts to regionalize the utility. She also is active with the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s Government Policy Committee as the chair for health care. At the federal level, Mrs. Huppert was appointed in 2019 and served on the U.S. Department of Education Committee for Distance and Online Education.
Mrs. Huppert received her B.S. degree from Iowa State University. Prior to joining DMU, she worked for Xerox Corporation for 30 years in various positions including national account manager with responsibility for state and local contracting and policy recommendations for the corporation for six states in the Midwest.
