Michael Hempel

Michael Hempel is a seasoned IT professional currently serving as the Senior Director of Information Technology at the Desert Botanical Garden since March 2024. Previously, Michael held the role of Director of Technology at the Arizona Humane Society from 2021 to 2023, where a technological strategy was orchestrated to enhance innovation and efficiency. Michael's expertise further extends to a significant tenure as Senior Vice President of Technology Operations and CISO at Newtek Business Services Corp. from 2018 to 2021, leading a large-scale IT transformation initiative. Prior experience includes serving as Chief Information Officer for the State of Arizona, overseeing IT strategy and operations from 2008 to 2018, and multiple positions in operational and IT management roles at Oakwood Worldwide, ELM Locating, and Underground Technology Inc. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix and possesses an extensive array of technical certifications in project management and various IT disciplines.
