Desert Sands Unified School District
Alberto Ochoa currently serves as the Unit Director at the Boys & Girls Club of Palm Springs since September 2023 and has been a Substitute Teacher for the Desert Sands Unified School District since April 2021. Ochoa has extensive experience in security management, having held positions such as Safety and Security Manager at Westin Hotels & Resorts (June 2022 - July 2023), Security Manager at Diamond Resorts® (September 2016 - September 2017), and Security Supervisor at La Quinta Resort & Club (September 2017 - November 2020). Prior to the hospitality industry, Ochoa served as a Police Officer for the Cathedral City Police Department from March 2000 to February 2015, gaining experience in community services, patrol, and criminal investigation. Ochoa's early career included roles at the Boys & Girls Club from 1988 to 2006, where responsibilities encompassed various youth mentorship programs. Ochoa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from UMass Global and an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice/Police Science from College of the Desert, alongside a California POST Certificate.
Desert Sands Unified School District
Desert Sands Unified School District primarily serves five communities in the central Coachella Valley of California: Bermuda Dunes, Indian Wells, Indio, La Quinta, and Palm Desert. Students from other areas of the desert also take advantage of the quality education provided by our schools. Over 26,000 students attend 34 schools in the district including traditional high schools, alternative high schools, middle schools, elementary schools, and 16 preschools, including a federally funded Head Start program. Two elementary schools currently offer full dual immersion in English/Spanish to kindergarteners and first graders. Grades will be added each year and the additional schools will be offered in the future. DSUSD is one of the larger employers in the valley with over 4,000 employees.
