Melanie Maxwell

Melanie Maxwell is an accomplished documentary photographer and photojournalist with extensive experience in various roles within the photography industry. Currently serving as the Deputy Director of Photo and Video at the Detroit Free Press since May 2018, Melanie also operates Melanie Maxwell Photography, specializing in wedding, portrait, lifestyle, and event photography in the Ann Arbor and metro Detroit area. Prior to this, Melanie was a full-time staff photojournalist at the Ann Arbor News from July 2009 to May 2018, focusing on sports, news, features, and portrait assignments, with significant coverage of University of Michigan athletics. Additional experience includes teaching photography as a part-time faculty member at Washtenaw Community College and holding positions at several publications, including The Star Press and Gannett. Melanie holds a B.S. and B.F.A. in Photojournalism and Photography from Central Michigan University.
