Chassica Kirchhoff

Assistant Curator, European Sculpture and Decorative Arts at Detroit Institute of Arts

Chassica Kirchhoff has extensive work experience in the field of art history and curatorial research. Chassica started their career as a Mellon/Loo Family Curatorial Intern in European & American Art at the Spencer Museum of Art, where they assisted with various tasks such as writing labels and conducting research on objects in the collection. Chassica also curated an exhibition during their time there.

Chassica then went on to work as a Sloan Curatorial Intern in the Department of Works on Paper at the same museum, where they conducted collections research, cataloged objects, and organized exhibitions. Chassica also independently curated an exhibition during this period.

After that, Chassica joined the Detroit Institute of Arts as an Assistant Curator, focusing on European Sculpture and Decorative Arts.

Chassica then worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as an Andrew W. Mellon Curatorial Research Fellow. Their responsibilities included uncovering and documenting the provenance of works in the Department of Arms and Armor, as well as contributing to research, interpretive texts, and programming for an exhibition and its catalogue.

Chassica also worked as an Exhibitions & Digital Projects Research Assistant at the Spencer Museum of Art, where they conducted research on under-documented artworks for an exhibition and publication. Their tasks included cataloging works of art, crafting didactic content, and contributing to funding reports.

Prior to that, they held various roles at the University of Kansas, including Instructor of Record, Judith Harris Murphy Graduate Research Fellow, Instructor of Record for the British Summer Institute in the Humanities, and Graduate Teaching Assistant. In these positions, they focused on developing teaching strategies and conducting research on German armor.

Chassica's work experience showcases their expertise in art history, curatorial research, and teaching. Chassica has extensive experience in conducting research, cataloging artworks, curating exhibitions, and contributing to interpretive texts and publications.

Chassica Kirchhoff has an extensive education history in the field of art history. From 2003 to 2007, they attended Drury University, where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Art History & Fine Art with an emphasis on Sculpture. After that, they enrolled at The University of Kansas, completing their Master's degree in Art History from 2009 to 2011. Continuing their academic journey, Chassica Kirchhoff then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Art History at The University of Kansas, from 2011 to 2018.
