Katherine Kasdorf

Katherine Kasdorf has a diverse range of work experience in the field of art and curatorship. Katherine is currently working at the Detroit Institute of Arts as an Associate Curator, specializing in Arts of Asia and the Islamic World. Previously, they held the position of Assistant Curator in the same department at the institute.

Prior to their time at the Detroit Institute of Arts, Katherine served as a Wieler-Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow at The Walters Art Museum. In this role, they primarily focused on the museum's collection of South Asian art, updating records and the website, curating exhibitions, and collaborating with colleagues on new gallery installations.

Katherine gained experience as a Head Curator at the Shraman South Asian Museum and Learning Center Foundation, where they were involved in developing a vision and strategic plan for the museum and contributing to the planning of educational resources.

Katherine also has teaching experience, having worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University, as well as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at New York University.

Katherine pursued their academic career as a PhD Candidate at Columbia University, specializing in the field of Art History and Archaeology. Additionally, they interned in the Department of Islamic Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Katherine Kasdorf's education history reflects their strong focus on art history. Katherine began their undergraduate studies at New York University in 1999 and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History. During their time at New York University, they also pursued a minor in Gender and Sexuality Studies.

Following their undergraduate studies, they joined Columbia University in 2004 to further their education in art history. Katherine completed a Master of Arts degree in Art History in 2005, followed by a Master of Philosophy degree in Art History in 2007. Katherine continued their academic journey at Columbia University and earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Art History in 2013.
