Ken Myers

Curator of American Art at Detroit Institute of Arts

Ken Myers has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and organizations. Ken started their career as a Professor of American Literature at Middlebury College in 1985, where they taught for ten years. In 1999, they transitioned to the role of Curator of American Art at the Freer Gallery of Art. During their time there, they curated small exhibitions of Whistler drawings and prints and co-curated a major exhibition on Victorian England. Ken also expanded the collection of Whistler prints and secured the donation of the Paul Mark collection of Whistler books and ephemera. In 2005, Myers joined the Detroit Institute of Arts as the Curator of American Art, and later became the Chief Curator in 2009. Ken remained in this position until 2013.

Ken Myers completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Cornell University from 1973 to 1977. Ken then pursued their Ph.D in American Studies at Yale University from 1977 to 1990.
