Mary Vortkamp

Mary Vortkamp currently serves as the Children's Librarian and Manager at the Detroit Public Library, a position held since December 2000, where efforts focus on fostering community, literacy, and health. In addition, Mary is a workgroup member for the Michigan ACE Initiative as of December 2023, and plays a pivotal role as a Founding Board Member and Board Chairperson of the Detroit Phoenix Center since July 2017, overseeing the organization's vision and internal operations. As Co-Chair of the Early, Family, and Community Literacy Table for 313Reads since August 2023, Mary collaborates with various groups to enhance early literacy for children in Detroit. Educational background includes a Master of Library & Information Science in Public Librarianship and a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature, both from Wayne State University.
