From 2007 until the end of 2018, Birgit Bohle served in a number of management positions at Deutsche Bahn AG, Germany's national railway. From August 2015 to December 2018, she served as CEO of DB Fernverkehr AG, the railway's long-distance passenger transport division. During this time, the company has gained more than 15 million new passengers and significantly increased its earnings. From 2010 to 2015, she held the function of Managing Director at DB Vertrieb GmbH, the company's passenger sales unit. Under her leadership, ticket sales over the Internet were expanded and the "DB Navigator" app was launched. She started her career at Deutsche Bahn in 2007 as Vice President for Business Development and Marketing at DB Vertrieb.
Bohle began her professional career in 1992 with an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at chemicals giant BASF. She then studied Economics at the Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar near Koblenz, at ESC Nice, and at the University of Texas at Austin, and specialized in marketing, controlling, and finance. After completing her studies, she initially worked for Bertelsmann AG before joining the McKinsey group in Frankfurt am Main in the year 2000. She worked for a large number of clients and was Associate Principal in the European Transport & Logistics management team.
