Rebecca Winkels has a diverse work experience in the field of communication and science journalism. Rebecca has worked as a Press Officer at the Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft and Deputy Press Spokeswoman at the Helmholtz-Zentrum für Infektionsforschung. Additionally, they were a Director of Communications and Strategy at Wissenschaft im Dialog, where they also served as a Project Lead and Head of Strategic Communication. Rebecca has also taken on roles as a Guest Lecturer in Science Communication at the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) and the Hochschule für den öffentlichen Dienst in Bayern. Moreover, they have worked as a Freelance Science Journalist for various clients. Currently, they are employed as a Press Spokesperson and Head of Communications at Deutsches Rotes Kreuz e.V. (German Red Cross).
Rebecca Winkels has an extensive education history. Rebecca started their academic journey by obtaining a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Biologie from Kiel University in 2011. Following this, they pursued a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Science Journalism from City, University of London from 2012 to 2013. Building upon their knowledge and skills in the field, Rebecca then pursued a Doktor (Ph.D.) degree in Wissenschaftskommunikation at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), starting in 2020.
Furthermore, Rebecca has also obtained additional certifications to enhance their expertise. In 2017, they completed the "Helmholtz Akademie für Führungskräfte: In Führung gehen!" program offered by the Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft. Additionally, in January 2020, they received a scholarship from LEAD, known as the "Scholarship Lead Academy Jahrgang 2020".
