Shrashtant Patara has over 14 years of work experience, starting in 2007 with the Development Alternatives Group, where they served as Vice President until 2012. Shrashtant then joined TARA (Technology and Action for Rural Advancement) as Chief Operating Officer from 2009 to 2012. In 2016, they returned to TARA as Chief Executive Officer until 2021. Most recently, in September 2021, they became the CEO of Development Alternatives.

Shrashtant Patara completed a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, from 1982 to 1987. In 2019, they enrolled in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town to pursue a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Inclusive Innovation. Additionally, they obtained a certification in Leadership for System Change from Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education in 2021.
