Rebecca Sewall

Deputy Chief of Party, CARE-GBV at Development Professionals

Rebecca Sewall has spent over twenty-five years advancing human rights and promoting inclusive development in USAID programming. Throughout her career she has designed, implemented, and managed a broad range of projects that constructively challenge the entrenched gender and social norms that drive social exclusion and has mainstreamed gender into large-scale development programs in governance, economic growth, education, health, and agriculture. Her work is distinguished by the use of inventive approaches that harness her expertise in anthropology, conflict resolution and change management to inspire and enable organizations to transform the way they work so that they can better meet the needs; protect the interests; and deliver equitable outcomes to all members of the communities they serve.

In her current role as the Deputy Chief of Party / Knowledge Management Specialist for the Collective Action to Reduce to Gender-Based Violence (CARE-GBV) task order Dr. Sewall is in charge of promoting the uptake and utilization of evidence-based practice to combat gender-based violence within select USAID missions. Prior to coming to DPI, she was President of Think Balanced and Inclusive Growth (Think BIG) LLC. Her past experience also includes serving as a Senior Technical Advisor in Gender and Social Inclusion at Creative Associates International, FHI 360 and CEDPA and has served on several gender support task orders for USAID. She has worked widely in Africa, MENA, South East and Central Asia, and Eastern Europe. She received her M.A. in Anthropology from the American University in Cairo and has a Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University.
