Denise Achonu

Denise Achonu, CPA, CA has a broad range of experience in finance and accounting roles. Denise began their career in 2001 as the Director of Group Accounting at Fairmont Raffles Hotels International Inc. Denise then moved on to become the Executive Director of Investor Relations and later the Executive Director of Financial Reporting at the same company. In these roles, Denise was responsible for preparing financial statements, managing audits, and advising on complex accounting issues.

In 2009, Denise joined Delta Hotels & Resorts as the Corporate Controller. Here, they oversaw corporate finance and accounting functions, including full-cycle accounting, management reporting, and external financial reporting. Denise also provided guidance on complex accounting standards and was involved in budgeting and cash management.

Denise then moved on to InnVest Real Estate Investment Trust in 2015, where they took on the role of VP Finance. In this position, they were responsible for financial reporting, accounting, and communication. Denise acted as a liaison between senior management and external parties for investor relations and oversaw regulatory reporting and reporting to the Board of Trustees.

Since 2016, Denise has been the Chief Financial Officer at Verve Senior Living. Their responsibilities in this role include financial management and strategic planning.

Denise is currently the Chief Financial Officer at Dexterra Group, a position they have held since 2024.

Denise Achonu, CPA, CA has a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting & Finance from the University of Toronto. Additionally, they have earned the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in both Canada (CA) and the United States (Illinois). Denise also holds a Strategic Leadership for the Hospitality Professional Certificate from Cornell University. In 2022, Denise obtained the Level 1 certification from the Innovation Governance Program.
