Brian Shieh

Dr. Brian Shieh is Group Vice President and General Manager for the Display and Flexible Technology business at Applied Materials. Under his leadership, Applied’s Display business has increased its market share and become the #1 supplier in the display equipment industry.

Since he moved to Display in 2007 as General Manager of the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) business unit, Dr. Shieh has extended the company’s display CVD preeminent market leadership and Applied has successfully entered the OLED thin-film encapsulation market.

Dr. Shieh first joined Applied in 1992 as an Etch process engineer and then spent three years as an associate at McKinsey & Company, practicing strategy for China entry and joint venture, post-mergers and acquisition organization and government high-tech public policy in the greater China region. He rejoined Applied in 1998 as key product unit head for the Dielectric Etch eMAX system and later became General Manager for the Dielectric Etch division.

Dr. Shieh holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Taiwan University and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from UC Berkeley.
