Michael Levitin

Michael Levitin is a Professor of Journalism and Department Chair at Diablo Valley College since August 2024, previously serving as an Assistant Professor of Journalism at the same institution from 2019 to June 2024. With extensive experience as a freelance writer for prominent publications such as The Guardian, The Atlantic, and Time since 2003, Michael focuses on politics, public policy, energy, environment, activism, and national and international affairs. In addition to academic roles, Michael has contributed to various media outlets and initiatives, including co-founding The Occupied Wall Street Journal and Associated Reporters Abroad. Before turning to academia and freelance writing, Michael worked as a ghostwriter and blogger for Wärtsilä, authored works on renewable energy, and served as a political affairs analyst for Deutsche Welle. Michael holds an MS in Journalism from Columbia University and a BA in History from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
