Kam earned his MD degree from University of Bonn, Germany and MPH and PhD degrees in Epidemiology from University of California Berkeley. He completed his Nephrology fellowship at University of California San Francisco and is board certified in Nephrology, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. An accomplished researcher with over 700 publications, including two invited review papers in New England Journal of Medicine, Kam has served as a principal investigator for the United States Renal Data System (2014-2020) and as President of the International Society of Renal Nutrition & Metabolism. Kam is a standing member of several National Institutes of Health study sections, including kidney and diabetes and is currently Professor and Chief of Nephrology at University of California Irvine.
