Andy Reed has a extensive work experience in various roles and companies. Andy started their career as a Mechanical Design Engineer at BBC in 1989 and worked there till 1993. Andy then joined National Grid as an Electrical Design Engineer from 1993 to 1998. After that, Andy worked as a Project Manager at Merlin Communications (BBC World Service) from 1998 to 2003. In 2003, they started working at Diamond Light Source as the Head of Electrical Facilities, where they were responsible for managing the electrical facility. Later in 2008, Andy became a Contracts Consultant at ALBA Light Source, and worked there until 2009.

Andy Reed attended the University of Warwick from 1993 to 1996, where they received a BEng degree in Electrical Engineering. Prior to that, from 1992 to 1993, they attended Leamington College of FE and obtained an HNC degree in Mechanical Design Engineering. Before that, from 1991 to 1992, Andy Reed attended the same institution and earned an ONC degree in Mechanical Design Engineering. Lastly, between 1985 and 1987, they attended Leamington College of FE and completed an OND degree in Electronic Design Engineering.
