Michael Hillman

Michael Hillman is a seasoned engineer with extensive experience in mechanical project engineering. Currently serving as a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer at Diamond Light Source since August 2015, Michael is responsible for leading the design and construction of a new beamline for X-ray PDF, which will be utilized to analyze the structure of materials in applications such as CO2 capture, batteries, thin films, and pharmaceuticals. Prior to this role, Michael held the position of Principal Engineer at the Bath Institute of Medical Engineering from March 1983 to September 2012, focusing on the design and development of devices for individuals with disabilities and various healthcare applications. Michael's engineering career began as a Technology Engineer at Rolls-Royce from September 1980 to March 1983. Michael holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Rehabilitation Robotics from the University of Bath and a 2-1 degree in Engineering from the University of Cambridge.
