Scientist I, Immunology at DICE Therapeutics

Michael Stutz has a diverse work experience in the field of medical research. Michael is currently working as a Scientist I, Immunology at DICE Therapeutics since 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Postdoctoral Scholar at Oregon Health and Science University from 2019 to 2021, where they led a team and conducted research on immune mechanisms of protection against tuberculosis.

Before joining Oregon Health and Science University, Michael served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research from 2018 to 2019. During their time there, they completed projects from their doctoral studies, assisted in writing successful research grant proposals, and conducted peer reviews of manuscripts. Michael also worked as a PhD Graduate Student at the same institute from 2014 to 2018, where they independently established murine models of infectious diseases.

Additionally, Michael has experience as a Scientist Mentor at Gene Technology Access Center from 2015 to 2017, and as a Research Assistant at Children's Medical Research Institute from 2011 to 2013. In these roles, they conducted experiments, analyzed data, and contributed to peer-reviewed publications.

Earlier in their career, Michael worked as an Honours by Research Student at Telethon Kids Institute in 2009, where they developed and evaluated methods to detect Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections in children with cystic fibrosis. Michael achieved a First Class Honours and published a first-author paper during this time.

Michael Stutz has a diverse education history. Michael began their academic journey in 2005 at Murdoch University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and Biomedical Science, along with a Bachelor of Forensics in Forensic Biology and Toxicology. This program lasted from 2005 to 2008. Following this, in 2009, they completed a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology with Honours (by Research) at the same institution, further specializing in Infectious Disease, Diagnostics, and Microbiology.

Stutz then went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Melbourne, focusing on Infectious Disease and Immunology. Michael dedicated four years to this program, from 2014 to 2018, earning their doctoral degree.

In addition to their formal education, Stutz has obtained several certifications to strengthen their skills and knowledge. Notably, they completed courses in Business Concepts for Life Scientists through iBiology, and Inferential Statistics, Introduction to Probability and Data, How Computers Work, and Introduction to Computer Programming through Coursera. Michael also completed courses in Bioinformatic Methods I and Bioinformatic Methods II through Coursera, enhancing their expertise in the field of bioinformatics.

Furthermore, Stutz has obtained certifications in various subjects related to their field, including Introduction to Good Clinical Laboratory Practice from The Global Health Network, Introduction to Genomic Technologies from Coursera, Good Clinical Practices (GCP): FDA Focus, Human Subjects Research, Working with Non-Human Primates in Research Settings, and Animal Care and Use: Working with the IACUC from the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI).
